Mark + Laura: Wedding

This Summer I had the opportunity to shoot Mark and Laura's Wedding in Carlsbad, CA. They tied the knott at Levyland which was a really cool location. The ceremony was down on the beach which was just a short walk from the house. This was my first time shooting a beach ceremony and it was beautiful to be on the sand with the waves crashing in the background...and of course the weather was perfect! One of my favorite parts of this wedding was all the details and how they all worked together for the beach themed day. I had a lot of great shots to pick from so this post is pretty long. Hopefully that will make up for me not blogging in a while...

After the reception Mark and Laura were feeling adventurous so they went down to the beach to take a dip in the ocean with their wedding clothes on. It was a blast and we got some fun - and somewhat unique - pictures. They did the same thing at the end of their Engagement Session down in Laguna Beach last year so it was a fitting way to finish the wedding!

Peter + Beth Engagement

I've said it before: some of my favorite sessions are those with friends, family, and people I am close to. Peter has been one of my best friends since college and it was such a privilege to take engagement pictures of him and his fiancee, Beth. They make an amazing couple and I am so excited for them to start their lives together when they get married in December.

We picked the perfect morning to take pictures up at the Irvine Regional Park. The lighting was as good as it gets and Peter and Beth couldn't stop laughing and smiling. The pictures came out great! Herre are a few of my favorites...

Brian + Jamie: Wedding

This summer I had the opportunity to travel back home to San Jose to shoot the wedding of two of my high school classmates. It is pretty amazing, but they have been together since Jr. High! Brian and Jamie had a beautiful wedding at the Sainte Claire Hotel in downtown San Jose. The ceremony and reception were both in the atrium room of the hotel. It was a great setting! I loved the way the natural light came through the glass ceiling. For me, one of the best parts of the day was getting to see many people I have not crossed paths with since graduation. In fact, all the groomsmen and a few of the bridesmaids were all in my graduating class as well as many of the guests. This led to a level of camaraderie and sense of community you don't find too often.

Hazen and Tiffani had a beautiful wedding in May this year. I graduated with Hazen and Tiffani from U.C. Irvine (where they started dating) so it was really cool being able to be a part of their big day. The wedding was up in Wilton, CA at the house where Tiffani grew up. They have a beautiful property and it was the perfect setting. At one point she mentioned how she used to run around and play out around the yard as a little girl and how crazy it was that now she was walking through the same areas in her wedding dress.

Last month I had the opportunity to take Senior Portraits of Alyssa. Alyssa's Family lived across the street from me growing up in San Jose. They moved to Arizona about 10 years ago and recently moved back to CA, now living in Orange County. It was fun seeing them again after so many years and amazing how much Alyssa and her siblings have grown up since I last saw them.

We had a fun session at a park up in the Anaheim Hills and then Newport Beach. It had been raining the day before but the clouds blew over right as we started. I was very thankful for that because the lighting was perfect.

We did not have time to do an engagement session before the wedding and they had their hearts set on doing a post-wedding session out here in CA during Spring. Texas Blue Bonnets

My wife misses Texas a lot, especially this time of year when all the flowers are in bloom. I was out in South Texas recently for work and she asked me to take some pictures of the blue bonnets which are one of her favorite flowers. After exploring the country roads and seeing them everywhere I can see why she misses it so much.

Jenna's Bridal Session

I had the opportunity to do a bridal session with Jenna on New Year's Eve, the day before her wedding. It was a beautiful morning and we went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. The light and location were perfect! Jenna was a natural in front of the camera which made my job easy. All around it was about as good as a portrait session could go!

My wife an I spent our honeymoon in Aptos and went down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium one afternoon. If you haven't been there, it is an amazing place to visit. I grew up in Northern California and my Grandmother lives in Monterey so I used to visit the Aquarium all the time as a kid. The jelly fish have always been one of my favorite exhibits. Sky + Virginia Engaged

My favorite photo sessions are usually based on the beauty of the location, quality of light, and the chemistry with the people I am shooting. By those standards, this would be up there with my best. However, this session was a bit more special for me because I had the privilege of taking engagement pictures of my best friend Sky and his Fiancee, Virginia. Sky and Virginia make an amazing couple and I couldn't be happier for them! Congratulations you two!

We spent the afternoon taking pictures at Quail Hill in Irvine and then down in Laguna Canyon. Enjoy the pictures!

Rodrigo + Kendra Engagement

Last month I had the privilege of doing an incredible engagement session with Rodrigo and Kendra up in the hills surrounding the Bay Area in East San Jose. This was probably the best location I have ever shot an engagement session at and definitely one of my favorite sessions! The lighting was perfect and the country was gorgeous. Kendra and Rodrigo were very easy to take pictures with and the three of us had a blast.

Last month I had the opportunity to take pictures of the Condit Family and their newest addition, Shane, while I was visiting my Dad in Virginia.

I met the Condits randomly while running through the woods by my Dad's house a few years ago (they are also runners). We have kept in touch a bit and I was thrilled when they asked me to take pictures of their family.

We decided to do an early morning shoot and the lighting was perfect! I wish I could shoot more often in the mornings for that reason but not too many of my clients are happy to be on site at 7:00AM ready to go. Oh the joys of parenthood :)

Warren + Tina: San Francisco Wedding

Let it snow!

I landed in Virgina this morning and the snow of one of the biggest storms to ever hit this area had just started falling. The storm has been called "Snowmageddon" and they are predicting 20-28" of snowfall by tomorrow night here and blizzard conditions tomorrow. For a California boy who rarely sees snow, this is very exciting!

I got a chance to play with my sister outside a bit this afternoon before it got too crazy. Here are a few shots. Have a great weekend!

Joe and Ina's wedding was one of the best weddings I shot this year. The wedding was well planned and executed by Kerry Pulverman of De Luxe Weddings and events. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with her. The ceremony was held at Voyagers Church in Irvine and the Reception was at the Dana Point Yacht Club.

My Second photographer was Michelle Kim. She covered the guys in the morning and got some great detail shots!

Northern California

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I have been traveling a lot recently and fighting a bad cold.

I got to spend this past week back home up in Northern California. My family and I took a day trip down to Monterey and I spend a day in San Francisco with my girlfriend as well. The weather has been perfect up here most of the week and it was gorgeous both days.

Here are a few from a walk I took with my Dad last weekend in Virginia. I miss him a lot and wish we could take more walks like this.

It was a cloudy afternoon which I was a bit bummed with at first. I was hoping for some sunshine to light up the red leaves in the forest as we caught the tail end of the fall season. The soft lighting turned out pretty nice though and gave these shots a very peaceful feeling.

Here are a few shots from Larry & Pam's wedding earlier this summer. The wedding was in a backyard near the foothills up in San Jose. It was beautiful intimate setting on a gorgeous afternoon.

This was one of my favorite moments of the day. It was right after they walked down the aisle together at the end of the ceremony. They were so excited to finally be married and I was just in the right place at the right time to capture it.

Nick and Jazz are great friends of mine who recently got Married. As a wedding gift, I offered to take them out for a few photo shoots. We had a lot of fun and they are both very photogenic which makes my job easy. I am so happy for them and excited to see them continue to grow as they start their new life together.

For our first session, I took them to Quail Hill in Irvine. It is one of my favorite places in Irvine to run and although it doesn't look anything like it does in the spring, it still has its own beauty.

Thad + Laura Wedding Part III: Ceremony & Reception

Here is the last installment of Thad and Laura's wedding. I usually don't split posts up like this but their wedding was so beautiful and it was a long day of shooting which meant I had a lot of good pictures to choose from! Hopefully seeing all three will do a more complete job in telling the story of the day.

The Wedding was at the L.A. Arboretum and was coordinated by Megan Bormacoff. She did a great job as you can see from all the details and how beautiful everything was.

A few of my favorites from the ceremony:

As part of his proposal, Thad washed Laura's feet as a symbol of Christ's love for us and his commitment to serve her. I forget the exact story, but I think he proposed on top of a tall building. A worker there said she had seen many proposals at that location, but his was the first with feet washing. As part of the ceremony, both Thad and Laura washed each other's feet. I had never seen it at a wedding before and it was just one of the many things that made their day very special.

Here are a few detail shots. They had this big "moon" light on a pole right by the dance floor. It was pretty sweet!

I have been working near Boston this past week and yesterday evening we got a chance to go downtown. We went to the Science Museum (which for all you nerds out there is a pretty sweet place to check out). I didn't get to walk around the city as much I would have liked but I ducked out of the museum at sunset to get a few pics over the water. We drove around the city a bit on our way out so I was able to get a few from the car.

It's a beautiful city...One I hope to explore more soon!

Thad + Laura Wedding Part II: Portrait Session

Here is the next set of my favorites from Laura and Thad's wedding last month. After the "first look" we spent over 2 hours walking around the arboretum to take portraits, couple shots, and bridal party shots. It was such a great group to work with. It was a ridiculously hot afternoon and nobody complained at all despite the heavy clothes, heat, and amount of walking we did. They were troopers! Even though it was the middle of the day and lighting wasn't ideal, the arboretum is such a beautiful place and I loved the variety of terrain we got to shoot in. Everything from prehistoric forests to rose gardens to bamboo forests.

Thad + Laura Wedding Part I: The First Look

My friends Thad and Laura got married a few weeks ago. It was a perfect day and an absolute dream to shoot. The wedding and reception were both in the L.A. Arboretum. It was a beautiful afternoon, we were in a beautiful place, and I had a beautiful group of people to shoot...pretty much all I could ask for.

Thad and Laura are amazing people and a true example of what it means to have a God centered relationship. They definitely set a standard for me of what I want my wedding to be like in the way everything they did that day was focused on God.

It was a full day of shooting and I have so many pictures to choose from so I decided to break up the day in a few posts. Here is the first!

We start the day with some details of Laura getting ready in the morning, and of course her orange shoes!

This was one of my favorite moments from the morning: A few of the bridesmaids were ready and waiting for Laura's finishing touches before she got the dress on. As soon as they realized they had some time they sat down together to spend that time in prayer for Thad, Laura, the day, and their future together. Talk about some good friends!

Meanwhile, Thad was patiently waiting at the Arboretum for his bride to arrive.

And finally their "first look". It was a very special moment and I loved how excited they were to see each other.

Off we went for a few hours of portraits around the Arboretum (does my job get any better?). More to come soon!

Vinh + Lida Day After

Vinh and Lida are one of my favorite couples I have had the privilege to shoot, so when they asked for a "day after" portrait session, I made sure to stay an extra day to squeeze it in before I left for Honduras and Guatemala. They were out in CA a week after their Wedding in Louisiana to have a reception with their family/friends out here and it worked out perfectly.

We went down to Laguna Beach on a beautiful afternoon and had a great time. I love taking pictures of these two because they have such a great connection that is obvious in all the pictures. It definitely makes my job easy!
